Summary of question
What is the Islamic law concerning marriage between a Sayed and a non-Sayed?
question
In the Indian sub-continent, it is forbidden for a Sayed girl to marry a non-Sayed boy, even though the latter might be pious and God-fearing? Is there any Marja (religious authority) who may be agreeable to this situation? (As far as I know, no living Mujtahid has ever prohibited such a marriage.) It is to be noted that there are some individuals who firmly believe in the impermissibility of marriage between a Sayed girl and a non-Sayed boy. They often quote the example of Imam Musa Kazim (a.s.) as a proof of their sayings: They say that the Imam (a.s.) had many daughters and they did not may anyone because there was no Sayed male. Do you think it is correct? Is there any evidence or proof confirming it?
Concise answer

There is no problem in the marriage between Sayed girls or women with non-Sayed Shiite men as it is not necessary for Sayed girls and women to marry Sayed men [1] . None of the jurists have forbidden such a marriage.

For instance, Grand Ayatollah Saafi Gulpaigani says in this regard as such:

“No, there is no problem in it but it is befitting for the husband to further observe his wife’s respect.” [2]

Imam Musa Kazim (a.s.) had many daughters who did not marry throughout their lives like Hazrat Ma’suma but it was not because of the unavailability of Sayed men. For more information, go to the following” indexes:
